New York City – August

So… I came back to this incredible city for obvious reasons but this time I got to experience it in a very different temperature… HOT! I stayed with a friend who lives in the city so i decided to spend my time differently on my second visit and chill out and enjoy the city as a local would. I still did a crazy amount of shopping but I avoided the tourist spots this time around.

Accomodation: Midtown East

I stayed with a friend in her apartment which was awesome and I’m so lucky to have been able to stay in NYC at no cost. Last time i stayed in Hells Kitchen but this time in Midtown east. Still very close to everything, plenty around, and a quick walk to the subway which gets you everywhere you need to go.

Things to do:

Shop: I went to Soho to shop around at the cool hipster sort of places but also to avoid the crowds. I also shopped on Lexington Ave which had Sephora, Bloomingdales, and Victoria Secret – all the essentials really.

ABC Kitchen: a restaurant by the famous Jean George and it was absolutely delicious!! You need to make a reservation as it is very popular but 100% worth it!

Broadway: staying with a local means you know the local ways. We bought tickets to Matilda about an hour before the show from a discount ticket place lated in Times Square under the red steps. We got really good seats for a great price.

Soho: a really cool area that everyone loves at the moment. A bit more chilled out from the main crazy part of the city. I had a walk around and grabbed a coffee and went for a shop. Was a nice place to be on my own and take in the sights of the city.

Brooklyn: I got to see a bit more of Brooklyn this time and I loved it. It was so hot at this time that all we wanted to do was go somewhere and drink frozen cocktails… which we did. There is this place in Williamsburg called Surf Bar and its a tiki bar with sand everywhere – really cool.I got to stand in that part in Brooklyn where you can see the Brooklyn Bridge and its a must do because the photo is awesome and there are some cool restaurants around there too.
