Salt Flats

One of the most spectacular and incredible things I have ever seen in my life. Some of Mother Nature’s finest work, truly. If you go to South America, make sure you go here, as you will not regret it.

Accommodation:

Depending on the tour you choose will depend where you stay or if you stay at all. If you do the 3 day tour (recommended as you see some really awesome coloured lakes) then those tours organise your accommodation.

How to get there: So we were given the wrong information… side note: Bolivia tells you nothing about Bolivia so you basically have to figure everything out on your own. We decided that if we were going to do the salt flats we needed to fly from La Paz to Uyuni. If you have the money and little time I would 100% recommend it, it was so easy and simple. Alternatively you take an overnight bus which is like 14 hours long so it really depends on your personal circumstance. We booked ours through Wild Rover so if you stay there you can just talk to the travel agents that work at the hostel.

Things to do:

1-day tour: I believe you can only get a Spanish guide for the one day tour but you can get an English guide for the longer tours but it costs a lot more.

Salt hotel: the beginning of the Salt flat you drive in and stop for lunch at this hotel made of salt. The surrounding area is also really cool because it’s your first look at the salt flats and is simply stunning.

Main Salt Flats: they are so crunchy and just insane seriously one of those moments when you are like am I really here right now. Your tour guide should take cool photos of you.

Isla de Incahuasi: The island of cactuses. Legit… there is an island in the middle of the salt flats that is full of giant cactuses. You hike up to the top for a pretty good panoramic view of the flats and surrounding mountains. Pretty cool place but just be careful to not get too close to the spikes!

Where the sky meets the Earth: this is where the most famous photos are taken. There is a small part of the Salt Flats that has a small layer of water. On this part if you’re lucky, you can see the sky’s reflection on the ground and take wicked photos! I wish we got here a bit earlier for it to be brighter but it was still amazing.
