Cusco

Cusco is a cool little city in the middle of the Andes mountains and is actually higher up than Machu Picchu. We didn’t stay long as the only reason we were visiting was to go to Machu Picchu but the time we spent there was fun.

Accommodation: Wild Rover
This was recommended to us by a few people so we had to check it out. They actually just moved locations and now have an amazing view of the city and everything is quite nice. There is a cool chill area with table tennis and also deck chairs out on some lawn if you feel like soaking up the sunshine. The beds were wider than your average single so it was nice to have a bit more space when sleeping. It’s also really cheap so we stayed in a 6 bed dorm. There are other dorms with like 20 people in it but the beds all went around the walls of the room and I think had curtains so if you ant to save some extra cash then I don’t think they would be too bad or squished. They have a travel agent/company within the hostel and they help you book and organise all different things including Machu Picchu. They are pretty good however I’ve heard you can get it cheaper if you go to travel agents around the city. There is a great vibe and the bar plays good music, serves delicious food, and gives you free shots throughout the night; needless to say our heads hurt the next day after being in the bar.

Things to do:
Plaza de Almaz: this is the main square sort of thing. The square itself doesn’t have anything other than a fountain but around it there are restaurants, shops, and pretty buildings.
Markets: there are really cool markets around where you can get alpaca jumpers and other local trinkets etc for really cheap! We went to one which was down an alley way and felt way more authentic than the ones set up in shops. Some of them even accept card so if you run out of cash that’s fine!
Party: surprise surprise another place in South America where you party. I was surprised at the size and quality of the clubs in cusco. We had a huge night at the hostel and ended up at the clubs and from what I remember we had a great time haha.
