For me, one of the biggest values gained from a strong LinkedIn network is the ability to canvas like minded professionals regarding topics specific to Product Management. Unlike an online survey where you can expect a fairly low response rate (20-30% according to one source), through my network I was able to garner 60% feedback from known sources whose input I am sure I can trust.
Recently I teased a challenge I was curious about to a group whose experience and expertise I knew would produce insightful responses. At the same time, I dug into the topic a bit via several good articles. Of course I had my own ideas regarding how to approach this challenge, but I was really interested in seeing what others said.
As is the case when I embark on gathering input for these types of endeavors, the result was a good review of concepts I already knew, reminder of some ideas I need to bring back to the forefront, and reveal of new ideas/concepts I hadn’t been exposed to yet.
This was the problem statement I was soliciting input for (I’d be interested to see your comments as well):
Consider the challenge of transitioning an organization to a product led environment and building a product management team. What are the first 3 things you solve for, and why?
