A principle I learned many years ago has stuck with me throughout my career, and it isn’t always the easiest to face. What if I were to tell you you wouldn’t understand up to 40% about yourself without the input of others? Yes, you read that correctly. Research indicates without a thorough examination of ourselves (including intentionally gathering input from others), we may not fully understand our weaknesses, see our rough edges, or be aware of our blind spots. Seeing the feedback from others is often insightful, sometimes painful, but always necessary if you want to improve.
It’s a fascinating principle for sure, but it shouldn’t begin and end with merely an examination of ourselves. What if we applied the principle in other ways? Like win/loss analysis?
